Leading a Group PDF Print E-mail

groupofguys

Leading a group of men is a noble calling. Most men experience lasting change in the context of meaningful relationships. We want to support you and your group however we can to make you even more effective. On this site you will find hundreds of articles - some of which apply to your men and others that are geared to help you as a leader. You'll also find hundreds of downloadable video and audio Bible studies you can use with your group.

Two primary ways we can support you:

  • You can use the Man in the Mirror Group Leader Job Description (pdf) as a guide to serving as a group leader. If you desire to step up to this challenge as a leader, register your commitment to follow the Job Description (If you haven't logged in to the site, you'll be asked to do that first). And,
  • You can register your Bible Study group online to allow other men to find your group and to stay connected with the men in your group (see below).

Starting a new group using the Man in the Mirror weekly video Bible Study:

Ask some men you would like to meet with if they would like to be in a discussion group that would view the Bible Study and discuss the follow-up questions. This can be a group from your work, church, neighborhood, hobiies, or a combination. The optimum starting size for the group would be four to six men. Some groups grow as large as 40 in time. Inform the men that you would like to view one Bible Study per week and set a time for your first meeting.

There are usually three or four discussion questions for each weekly study. You can print these from the page on the website where you are viewing the video. Here is a good schedule for a one hour meeting:

  • 30 Minutes to Watch yhe Bible Study on Video
  • 20-25 Minutes for Discussion Questions
  • 5-10 Minutes of Group Prayer
  • End Promptly At The Scheduled Time

Leading the discussion: If possible, try to divide your time evenly between the questions. But it's more important to talk about "real" things than it is to answer every single question. Make sure that each member gets "air time." Your role is to encourage each man to share his thoughts. If someone dominates the time, privately ask them to help you draw out the more reserved members of the group.

Experience:

You don't have to be an experienced Bible teacher to lead a discussion about the Man in the Mirror Bible Study. If someone asks a question beyond your scope, simply say so and move on.

Man in the Mirror Bible Study Mission:

To reach men with a credible offer of Jesus Christ, to help them grow in knowledge and love for Christ, and to equip them to serve God in the home, church, workplace, community, and world. We help men change their lives by connecting the dots between the Bible and their daily lives. We measure our profits in changed lives.

Focusing Idea:

Discipleship with Evangelism and Fellowship. We are a disciple-making ministry.

Method:

"Investing in men who will invest in other men" (2 Timothy 2:2).
