Journey to Biblical Manhood

BETA - Faith & Life Objectives for all Twelve Challenges

Journey to Biblical Manhood CREDO:
We are on a journey to Biblical Manhood. Christ is our standard and our life.
No man journeys alone. No man will be left behind.

Challenge 1: Master the Essentials of Biblical Manhood
This first module in the Journey to Biblical Manhood is designed to provide an overview for participants. It introduces your men to the basic characteristics of a godly man. These are the same ideas they will be exploring in more detail during the rest of the Journey.

Faith & Life Objectives
Master the Essentials of Biblical Manhood
We are on a great adventure. Where are we headed? At the end of this leg of the journey:
  •  I will understand how the Bible guides me in each of the basic areas of my life (faith, work, family, marriage, money, emotions, etc.) (Head)
  • I hope to desire God and biblical manhood more than the things that distract me from Christ. (Heart)
  • I will schedule time to spend in God’s word, pursue friendships with godly men, and live my life according to the Scriptures. (Hands)

Challenge 2: Build a Firm Foundation in the Faith
What are the core concepts of the faith that every man needs to understand? Use this Challenge to communicate to men the basic tenets every man should understand.

Faith & Life Objectives

Build a Firm Foundation in the Faith

We are committed to building our faith on the rock, not on shifting sands. At the end of this leg of the journey:
  • I will understand the basics of Christian doctrine, such as the character of God, justification, sanctification, the church, the Bible, the person of Christ, and work of the Holy Spirit. (Head)
  • I will learn to trust God for my righteousness and security rather than my own strength. (Heart)
  • I will have developed the habits of a learner and will continue to grow in my knowledge and love for God. (Hands)

Hebrews 6:1-3; 1 Corinthians 1:30; 2 Timothy 2:15

Challenge 3: Build Godly Relationships and Marriages

This Challenge helps you explore the key relationships men have. Topics covered here would include dating, marriage, being single, and brotherhood.

Faith & Life Objectives

Build Godly Relationships and Marriages

The Christian man is built for relationship. At the end of this leg of the journey:
  • I will understand that relationships give me the chance to love others as Christ loves me. If married, I will understand that my marriage is a gift from God that represents Christ’s love for the church. (Head)
  • I will love others sacrificially. If married, I will make my wife, after God, my top priority. (Heart)
  • I will maintain moral and sexual integrity in my personal relationships. If married and/or a father, I will pray with and for my wife and children every day. (Hands)

John 13:34; Ephesians 5:25; I Thessalonians 4:3-6a

Challenge 4. Father the Hearts of Our Children/Grandchildren

What is a father’s responsibility to his kids? In a time when 40% of children are brought up without their biological father, men often have no pattern or example of proper fathering. Use this Challenge to show men what it means to be a Godly father, grandfather, or mentor.

Faith & Life Objectives

Father the Hearts of Our Children/Grandchildren

Children are one of God’s greatest blessings. We will not allow the responsibilities of fatherhood to be defined by our culture. Rather, at the end of this leg of the journey:
  • I will understand how to disciple my children/grandchlidren to love God and others rather than fathering for performance. (Head)
  • I will have made discipling my children/grandchildren a top priority in my life. (Heart)
  • I will pray for and encourage my children/grandchildren daily. (Hands)

Psalm 78:1-8; Ephesians 6:4

Challenge 5. Become a Spiritually Disciplined Man

Help men understand the core disciplines of the Christian life, including devotions, reading the Bible, prayer, solitude, and more.

Faith & Life Objectives

Become a Spiritually Disciplined Man

In a world full of strife and conflict, it is crucial that we stay plugged into the power of God. We do this by spending time with God and His Word. At the end of this leg of the journey:
  • I will know how to study the Bible, and have learned the Biblical foundations of prayer, worship, fasting, meditation and solitude. (Head)
  • I will love God’s word and be committed to spending time alone with Him regularly. (Heart)
  • I will maintain a regular schedule of prayer and Bible study, and begin to implement other spiritual disciplines in my life. (Hands)

Psalm 119:11; Luke 6:12; Ephesians 6:18

Challenge 6. Serve God in Our Work

What does it mean to have a Godly view of work? Cover issues such as mission and calling, purpose, the true definition of success, balance and priorities.

Faith & Life Objectives

ServeGod in Our Work

Work is a central part of our calling as men. Even though work after the fall is hard, we recognize it as a gift and an opportunity. At the end of this leg of the journey:
  • I will understand that all work is sacred and every task is a calling. (Head)
  • I will passionately pursue the ministry of my work before God. (Heart)

I will work with excellence and diligence to demonstrate God’s character to a watching world. (Hands)

Colossians 3:22-24; 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

Challenge 7. Commit to a Personal Ministry

Help men understand their giftedness and how they can contribute to Kingdom work. Show them places in the church and in the work of the church where they can have an impact. Connect them with opportunities to learn and grow as part of God’s activity in the world.

Faith & Life Objectives

Commit to a Personal Ministry

A man in right relationship with God will eventually find an outlet for meaningful service. At the end of this leg of the journey:
  • I will understand my gifts and abilities and how I can be used for God’s glory. (Head)
  • I will have a strong desire to use these gifts and abilities on a regular basis. (Heart)
  • I will have tried several outlets for my gifts to find one I can be engaged in long-term. (Hands)

Challenge 8. Use Money for God’s Glory

All men need a Godly view of money. Are they owners of all they have, or stewards of the gifts God has given them? Help men understand that they are God’s money managers.

Faith & Life Objectives

Use Money for God’s Glory

Money makes a great servant but a terrible master. We will learn to put money in its place. At the end of this leg of the journey:
  • I will understand that money is a tool to allow me to fulfill God’s calling on my life. (Head)
  • I will love God more than money and be a cheerful steward. (Heart)
  • I will avoid or reduce consumer debt and contribute 10% or more of my income to kingdom work. (Hands)

Challenge 9: Live as a Man of Integrity and Character
Help men understand what the Bible has to say about moral, ethical and sexual purity.

Faith & Life Objectives

Live as a Man of Integrity and Character

The standards of the world are often at odds with the standards of the Bible. In a world full of compromises, a Christian man’s integrity is a powerful witness to the truth of the gospel. At the end of this leg of the journey:
  • I will develop a set of Biblical principles to live my life by. (Head)
  • I will trust in the truth of the Scriptures and God’s promises in it more than the “wisdom” of the world. (Heart)
  • I will identify key areas of my life to establish boundaries and accountability to help me maintain my integrity and witness. (Hands)

Challenge 10: Be Shaped by Suffering
The Bible says we are called to share in Christ’s suffering. What does this mean to the average guy?

Faith & Life Objectives

Be Shaped by Suffering

Jesus promises us that following him will lead to suffering. If we aren’t prepared for this, we are subject to the temptation of walking away or doubting His grace. By the end of this leg of the journey:
  • I will understand that suffering is a way of sharing in Christ’s sacrifice. (Head)
  • I will experience suffering as a gift from God that helps draw me closer to Christ in shared experience.
  • I will

Challenge 11: Grow in Leadership
· Some men are called to be leaders of ministries - others of businesses. And all men are called to be leaders in their homes. Help men understand the Biblical view of leadership.

Challenge 12: Develop a Life Mission
