John the Baptist was an ascetic, and some people didn't like him because he lived such an austere life. Jesus enjoyed hanging out with pagans, and some people didn't like him because he associated with riff raff. Jesus put it this way: "For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners."' (Luke 7:33-34). No matter who you are, what you look like, how you talk, what you do for a living, who your friends are, what kind of car you drive, where you live, how much money you make, how kind you are to orphans and widows, how much you read the Bible, how spiritual you become, or anything else-some people are just not going to like you.
